Learn about Deforestation and design your own Automated Tree Planter
In this lesson students will explore deforestation around the world and how that impacts the carbon cycle, habitat for animals and even the weather. After reviewing a series of videos and articles on deforestation, students will begin their own journey of inquiry to understand the impact and the opportunities we have to change this cycle. Groups of students will then be challenged to design, build and code their own automated tree seeding machine.
The taking action portion of this lesson will see students making proposals to principals and custodial staff to plant trees or a forest garden in their school yard.
Please note: This course is designed to be used in conjunction with the InkSmith Climate Action Kit. The Kit contains all the robotic parts and the PCB breakout board needed to complete the project. You will need at least one micro:bit per kit to complete the project, however, the more micro:bits the better.
